It is with great regret that we advise of the passing of one of our GP supervisors, Dr Andrew Egan of Cooma on Sunday, 28 February 2021. He had been unwell for some time. We send our condolences to his wife Anne and their children.
Andrew had been a procedural GP in Cooma for more than 30 years. He worked as a GP at Bombala Street Surgery, providing VMO services to the local hospital in obstetrics, anaesthetics, emergency medicine and general in-patient medical care. He was a long-time supervisor of GP registrars, and many GPs have been grateful for Andrew’s care and teaching. He enjoyed meeting young, keen doctors and watching how they progressed in their journey through medicine and seeing how quickly they took up the complexity of being a GP.
Andrew was President of RDA NSW in 2018/19 after being a member since the formation of the association. He was passionate about rural medicine, always willing to mentor the next generation of potential rural GPs. In 2010 he helped raise $120,000 for local cancer care in Cooma’s Dancing with the Stars. He was a well respected supervisor, colleague, mentor, doctor and his kindness and sense of humour will be sorely missed.
