Interview bookings and subregion preferencing
If you are successful in being shortlisted to a NSW and ACT training region, GP Synergy will contact you by email and ask you to:
- register for the interview and book in a timeslot
- rank your subregion preferences for your allocated training region (if applicable).
- Allocation to timeslots is made on a first comes, first served basis.
- If you are asked to make subregion preferences, these preferences will not affect the score of your stage 2 assessment interview.
- It is your responsibility to book an interview and submit your subregion preferences (if applicable). If you do not submit your subregion preferences, GP Synergy will do this on your behalf. If you do not book an interview, you will be removed from that round of selection.

How will training offers and subregion allocations be determined?
Within each NSW/ACT training region (Western NSW, North Eastern NSW and Lower Eastern NSW) there are different subregions. Applicants who are successful in being offered a training place will be allocated to the subregion and will be required to complete their GP term training within this subregion.
Training offers, and subregion allocation, will be made by on the basis of score (from stage 2 assessments) up to the number of training places available.
Please note: Not all training regions and subregions may be available in second intake.
Further about our subregions and training location requirements is outlined in GP Synergy Applicant Pack, available upon signing up to our mailing list (opposite).
What is the interview structure?
The RACGP stage 2 assessment with GP Synergy will be in the format of Multiple Mini Interviews (MMIs).
Applicants will be required to answer five interview questions, asked by five different interviewers. Applicants will have eight minutes to answer each question and will have two minutes reading time.
For information about the interview content and how to prepare, please contact the RACGP.
If I already attended an MMI in round 1 or 2, do I have to participate again?
Yes. All applicants who are shortlisted to second intake are required by the RACGP to attend the second intake MMI. This includes applicants who were shortlisted to a GP Synergy subregion in round 1 or 2.
Can I preference an interview date/time now?
We are unable to accept preference requests in advance. This is because we will not know if you have been successful in passing the stage 1 assessment. Interview bookings will be made via a booking platform on a first come first served basis.
Can I attend an interview remotely?
GP Synergy will consider applications for remote interviews for applicants experiencing extenuating circumstances only.
Applicants are required to complete the Request for Remote Interview Form and submit this to GP Synergy by 5pm 22 November 2017.
What happens if I am late to my interview?
If you are late to your interview you will not be able to join your allocated timeslot. Allocation to another time/date cannot be guaranteed.
What happens if I can’t attend my allocated interview time?
If you experience exceptional circumstances and you cannot attend your allocated interview date you must contact GP Synergy ASAP on the contact details provided in your interview request email. Please note: We cannot guarantee additional interview spaces on other times/dates will be available.
When will I know if I have been made an offer?
Applicants will be advised if they have been successful in being made an offer by 5pm AEST 11 December 2017.
Important note about 2018 training plans – GP terms and second intake time frames
Due to the timeframes of second intake, and the logistics involved with securing Medicare provider numbers and assessing doctors for GP term eligibility, applicants are strongly encouraged to have suitable hospital employment lined up for the first six months of 2018.
Furthermore, applicants should review their own GP term readiness by reviewing the RACGP mandatory hospital rotation requirements. It is the registrar’s responsibility to ensure they have suitable employment for the first half of 2018.
Please note: The GP training program cannot be deferred or started on leave. The exception is maternity or sick leave.
Please request a copy of the GP Synergy Applicant Pack – Second Intake via our mailing list opposite for further information.
