Tahmoor is the largest town and commercial centre of Wollondilly Shire on the southern outskirts of Sydney.

Population

Tahmoor has a population of 4,505 and is comprised of approximately 50% females and 50% males. It has an indigenous population of 182 (4.1%), and the median age is 37.

Location

Tahmoor sits on the Southern outskirts of Sydney in the Wollondilly Shire. It is about an hour and twenty minutes from Sydney CBD.

Transport links

Trains run from Central Station in Sydney to Moss Vale via Tahmoor and buses run between Campbelltown and Tahmoor.

The closest airport to the Tahmoor is Sydney Airport.

Healthcare facilities

Bowral and District Hospital (30 minutes to the southwest) is an acute care public hospital servicing the Southern Highlands region in New South Wales. The hospital is centrally located in the town of Bowral and is the only hospital operated outside the Sydney metropolitan area by the South Western Sydney Local Health District. It has 94 beds and an emergency department.

Tahmoor is serviced by the Picton Ambulance Service (10 minutes away).

Shopping

Tahmoor has three major supermarkets (Woolworths, Aldi and FoodWorks), two of which are located in separate shopping centres, one being the older original Tahmoor Shopping Village and the other in the newer Tahmoor Town Centre. In addition to these there are a variety of small businesses, an expanding medical and dental centre, along with two prominent fast-food outlets, some take-aways and restaurants.

Places of worship

Tahmoor has Catholic, Uniting, Seventh-day Adventist and Anglican churches. To the south of the town is the Kiah Ridge Conference Centre, operated by the Baptist Church.

Things to do

Sporting Activities
Tahmoor has sporting fields, and a skate and BMX park. The official soccer team of Tahmoor is the Tahmoor Taipans which compete in the Macarthur District Soccer Football Association League. The team’s home ground is Tahmoor Oval.
Nearby Picton has a number of sporting clubs and a Community Leisure Centre/swimming pool.

Cultural Activities
Tahmoor has a community function centre owned by the Country Women’s Association.
Community Links Wollondilly Incorporated (CLW) is a not-for-profit non-Government community organisation working in Wollondilly, Camden, Campbelltown and Wingecarribee Local Government Areas. The service supports all members of the community and provides resources to help achieve positive personal and community outcomes through community development, events, groups, workshops, youth programs, crisis support, carer support and family support. Points of Interest
Tahmoor has number of places to eat in or out, including a Thai restaurant, an Indian restaurant, a Chinese restaurant and a couple of pizza restaurants and Picton Cinema is just 10 mins away.

The Pot Holes on Rockford Road are a good access point for canoeists wanting to explore the Bargo River. A walking track meanders along the right-hand bank for about 3 km past See Through Pool to Mermaid Pools. Tahmoor House at Myrtle Creek on the old Hume Highway is an old weatherboard inn built in 1821 and extended by subsequent owners in 1824 and 1835. It is the oldest building in the shire and an important surviving remnant on the South Road. A cycleway links Tahmoor to Thirlmere.
