Moruya is located in the Eurobodalla region, 305 km (4 hr drive) south of Sydney and 175 km (just more than 2 hr drive) from Canberra. Batemans Bay is 26 km (20 min drive) from Moruya.

Moruya is surrounded by national parks and agricultural land, and is only ten minutes from the coast.

How to get there

Regional Express (REX) offers daily flights to and from Sydney and Merimbula. There are a number of coach companies offering daily services to the Eurobodalla Coast from Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne.

Priors Bus Service offers a town bus service between Batemans Bay and Moruya with a range of stops.


Moruya is home to more than 2,500 people, the median age of residents is 49 years. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people make up 10% of the population.

There are a number of places of worship in Moruya including Catholic, Anglican, Presbyterian and Baptist churches. The nearest Buddhist temples and mosques are located in Canberra (just over 2 hr drive from Moruya).

At the mouth of the Moruya River is Shelly Beach, a popular family recreation spot. The area has many lovely beaches with regular surf patrols provided by the Moruya Surf Club. There are regular and popular markets on Saturday mornings and the award-winning Farmer’s Market every Tuesday. Nearby Batemans Bay offers a wide range of entertainment and dining options including a cinema complex.
  • Sporting activities

Golfers can enjoy the public course and a driving range. Other sporting activities include bowls, tennis, basketball, touch football netball and surfing.  There’s great fishing from the river, beaches and nearby lakes. For swimmers, Moruya has a heated public swimming pool and nearby beaches.
