In the heart of the Lachlan Valley, Forbes has a gold rush past but is now one of the richest areas for agriculture in NSW.
Forbes is in the Central West of NSW located on the Newell Highway between Parkes and West Wyalong. It is about 375 km from Sydney and 157 km (just less than 2 hr drive) from Dubbo.
Forbes has a gold rush past, with stories of bushrangers part of its folklore. It is now a centre for farming with wheat and other crops grown in surrounding areas.
Daily flights to and from Sydney are available from Parkes Airport with Regional Express(REX), a half hour drive from Forbes.
Country Link has services from Sydney to Lithgow and Orange with a connecting coach to Forbes.
The town of Forbes has a population of just over 8400 people. The median age of residents is 42 years. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people make up 12% of the population.
Forbes District Hospital is a small hospital with an emergency department. With less than 50 beds it provides obstetric, surgical, renal dialysis, and medical services, as well as medical imaging, pathology and pharmaceutical services.

There is an Ambulance Service of NSW station in Forbes.
