Cooma is located 110 km (80 min drive) south of Canberra via the Monaro Highway. It is also on the Snowy Mountains Highway, that connects Bega with the Riverina.

Cooma is known as the gateway to the Snowy Mountains and Kosciuszko National Park, it is also the largest town in the Snowy Mountain region and the major base for Snowy Hydro.

Regional Express (REX) conduct year-round return flights from Sydney into Snowy Mountains Airport (Cooma).

Annual events include the Cooma Show and Cooma Rodeo.
