Coolah is approximately 4 hours 45 minutes north-west from NSW’s capital city of Sydney. Coolah traces its colonial heritage to the ‘black stump’, a reference to the limits of colonial settlement. A black stump was used as a boundary measure in colonial times.
Air: The nearest regional airport is Mudgee (1 hour 15 mins to the south). There are daily flights to Sydney through Fly Pelican.
There is also the Dubbo Airport. Dubbo (1 hour 30 mins south west) is one of the leading regional airports in Australia, with four major airlines providing over 180 flights per week to and from Dubbo, Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Newcastle, Cobar, Broken Hill and Canberra.
Train: The nearest railway station is Dubbo Railway Station (1 hour 30 mins south west). Dubbo station is the terminus for a daily NSW TrainLink XPT service from Sydney.
Bus: A NSW Trainlink coach links the Lithgow Railway Station and provides transport between Coolah and Lithgow.

The major regional centre of Dubbo is only an hour and a half to the south west.
