Bundanoon is the ‘Quintessential Southern Highlands Experience’ and the perfect village alternative to larger towns such as Bowral, Mittagong and Moss Vale.
Bundanoon has a population of more than 2,000 people, the median age is 53 years. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people make up less than 1% of the population.
Bundanoon is in the Southern Highlands of NSW, approximately 120 kilometres (2 hr drive) southwest of Sydney. It is located almost halfway between Canberra and Sydney, and is approximately 15 km off the Hume Highway.
Bundanoon is a less than 2 hr drive from both Sydney and Canberra airports.
NSW Trainlink offers three daily return services to Sydney from Bundanoon.
Although some of the outlying residential area is best reached by car, one of the features of the village is that almost the entire town is easily accessible by foot or bike.

Bowral and District Hospital (30 minutes from Bundanoon) is an acute care public hospital servicing the Southern Highlands region in New South Wales. The hospital is centrally located in the town of Bowral and is the only hospital operated outside the Sydney metropolitan area by the South Western Sydney Local Health District. It has 94 beds and an emergency department.
There is a NSW Ambulance Service station in Bundanoon that is staffed by volunteers.
Bundanoon has one primary school, Bundanoon Public School.

Bundanoon has a supermarket and hardware store, butchery, delicatessen, pharmacy, country bakehouse, newsagency and bottle shop. For your other basic needs there is Woolworths in Mittagong and Bowral, IGA in Bowral and Moss Vale, Harris Farm in Bowral, Aldi in Mittagong and Bowral, Coles in Bowral, and a Tuckerbag in Moss Vale and Mittagong. Larger retail stores in the Southern Highlands include Harvey Norman, Retravision, Betta Electrical, Target, Big W and Bed Bath ‘n Table.
There are two churches in Bundanoon – the Catholic and Anglican churches. There are also a number of places of worship in broader Southern Highlands region including Catholic, Anglican, Uniting, Methodist and Baptist churches. The nearest Buddhist temple (Nan Tien) is in Berkeley (1hr 15 min from Bundanoon) and the closest mosque (Omar Mosque) is in Gwynneville (1hr 20min from Bundanoon).

Brigadoon – The Ultimate Scottish Experience
Bundanoon has over the past 40 years gained the envious reputation throughout Australia as the Premier location for hosting the traditional Scottish Highland Games. Every year in April between 12-16,000 Australians, many not necessarily of Scottish descent make an annual pilgrimage to this outstanding event to enjoy and participate in the gathering known, as “Bundanoon is Brigadoon”.
Points of Interest
There are several good places to eat out in Bundanoon as well as a local hairdresser and beauty therapist. If you are after quaint places to visit there is a little museum (open weekends), nurseries and several picnic areas.
One of the great evening activities for visitors and locals is a trip down to glow worm glen. With a bit of care, you can ensure to see a great light show while minimising impact on these luminescent locals.
Although a short drive from Bundanoon, a trip to Fitzroy Falls is well worth a visit too and the Southern Highlands Vineyards are great to explore.
Morton National Park is one of NSW’s largest parks, containing a considerable section of the Southern Highlands. Whether you are an experienced bushwalker looking for remote wilderness hiking, a novice mountain biker looking for a comfortable ride or a keen photographer looking for some scenic waterfalls to capture this enormous park has something for everyone.
