Bargo is a small town surrounded by natural bushland south west of Sydney, and located near historic Avon and Nepean Dams that are popular picnic destinations.

Bargo is located about 100km (90 min drive) south west of Sydney and approximately 200km (2 hr drive) from Canberra.

The town is well known for is Wildlife Sanctuary and Dingo Sanctuary, popular tourist destinations.

How to get there

Sydney Airport is the closest airport to Bargo (60 min drive) or (80kms). From Sydney airport international and domestic destinations can be accessed.

Bargo is accessible via the Hume Highway that links Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne.


Bargo is home to more than 3,200 residents, the median age of residents is 40. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people make up nearly 3.5% of the population.

Healthcare facilities

Bowral and District Hospital (30 min drive) is a major rural hospital servicing the Southern Highlands.

It has a total of 91 beds and offers a range of general and specialised services such as general medicine, emergency services, paediatric, surgical and geriatric.

There are Ambulance Service of NSW stations at Picton (17 min from Bargo) and Bowral (30 min from Bargo).
