Applied for the 2023 AGPT program?
Where do you train in NSW and ACT?
Across NSW and the ACT there are a diverse range of GP training experiences available. In the AGPT program, registrars can nominate their training region and pathway preferences. In NSW and ACT, training regions are further divided into subregions, where registrars will complete their GP term training overseen by a local medical education and administration team.
Explore the steps in choosing a training location below.
When you apply to the AGPT program, you can preference your pathway choice (i.e. general and rural pathway) and training region. In NSW and ACT, there are three training regions to choose from.
Each of our NSW and ACT training regions are divided into subregions. If you are successful in receiving an offer to train with us, you will be allocated to a subregion within your shortlisted training region based on your selection performance and preference.
You'll undertake your GP training terms within this subregion, with teaching and support from local medical education and administrative team.

Registrars on the Australian Government funded AGPT program are required to meet certain training location obligations during their training.
To ensure communities across NSW and ACT receive the primary care they need, during your training you'll train in areas of medical service need. Known as training location obligations, these areas of need will vary according to each subregion.

The AGPT program is an apprentice-ship based model, where registrars train in accredited community GP practices with dedicated supervisors providing teaching and support in your development into a confident and skilled GP specialist.
Which practice/s you will train in during your GP training is up to you and the practice, as our term placement process is designed to offer flexibility to decide what's right for you. All of our practices are accredited and follow GP Synergy’s Practice Quality Framework to ensure a quality training experience.
