Our South Eastern NSW seasonal celebration and awards night was held in Wollongong on 14 November 2019. Supervisors, practice managers, registrars, staff and guests enjoyed the evening and the opportunity to network and recognise achievements in GP training.
South Eastern NSW Supervisor of the Year Award – Dr Jarrod Alkemade
Dr Jarrod Alkemade is based at Moss Street Medical Practice in Nowra, he also started his GP training at the practice. Fellowing in 2016, he became a GP supervisor the following year. As a supervisor, his enthusiasm, approachability and willingness to go above and beyond with teaching have greatly enriched the learning of registrars. His wealth of clinical knowledge is readily shared and no problem is too much effort to discuss or explain. He maintains excellent standards of patient-centred care, a value he passes on to his registrars. His commitment to teaching extends to running OSCE preparation sessions for a small group of registrars from Moss Street Medical Practice and other local practices. He is a role model for what is achievable as an early career GP.
South Eastern NSW Practice Manager of the Year Award – Ms Sarah Pryor
Sara Pryor is the practice manager at Bowral Street Medical Practice. In the five years she has been practice manager there she has introduced systems that support the provision of teaching and training to medical students and registrars. Sarah ensures that registrars and supervisors are well-resourced and adequately supported so that teaching and training takes place, and that the learning needs of registrars are met. She has a focus on registrar well-being and is an excellent support to them, understanding what it means for registrars to relocate for training. She ensures that they settle into the community as well as the practice.
South Eastern NSW Registrar of the Year Award – Dr Cameron Warren
Dr Cameron Warren is in an extended skills term at Kiama Medical Practice, where he has been a great asset to the team. His professionalism and willingness to be a team player has been obvious, he is courteous and respectful to all staff, patients and their families, his clinical skills and knowledge are outstanding. As a registrar he has gone above and beyond for the practice, including volunteering for extra responsibilities. Cameron is also the Registrar Medical Educator in the South Eastern NSW subregion, where he brings a great energy to the role and is proactive in ensuring the delivery of quality GP training.
South Eastern NSW Staff Member of the Year award – Ms Nicole Johnson
Nicole is the Education Coordination Administration Officer based in the Wollongong office. Despite joining GP Synergy just over a year ago, in a newly created position, she has proven to be organised, diligent and proactive. Organising CTV visits and EC support for Central, Eastern & South Western Sydney and South Eastern NSW, Nicole is solution focussed, completing task with minimal instruction or supervision, eager to learn and is a team player, always willing and enthusiastic to take on additional responsibilities.
