PEP award winners

GP Synergy presents a range of state-based and subregional awards every year. This year we were pleased to add a PEP Participant of the Year Award. We’re also proud that PEP supporters have been awarded with regional awards.

Congratulations to Dr Lalani Ranasinghe, who was awarded the GP Synergy PEP Participant of the Year Award. The award recognises a PEP participant, for their dedication, on-going commitment and active engagement in PEP. Lalani who is based in Griffith accepted her award at the Murrumbidgee & ACT awards night in Canberra (Lalani is pictured above with GP Synergy CEO Mr John Oldfield). She obtained her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Colombo in 1979 and worked as a GP for many years in Siri Lanka where amongst other things she oversaw the national immunisation program. Since moving to Australia, Lalani has been a GP for the last eight years in rural and remote Australia. Since joining the PEP, Lalani has been an outstanding candidate, actively engaging with the program and taking ownership of her training. She has attended all optional educational sessions run by GP Synergy and has taken every available opportunity to enhance her training experience in the PEP. Congratulations Lalani!

Congratulations to Sally Lucas, our PEP Administrator, who was named GP Synergy New England/Northwest Staff Member of the Year. Sally is based in our Armidale office. Despite the PEP program being a new program with challenges in meeting the different needs of program participants, Sally has impressed the medical education staff and PEP participants with her efficiency, empathy and problem-solving ability. She has played a role beyond administrator in ensuring delivery of the program has been smooth and effective, showing initiative in the delivery of what has proven to be an evolving program. Sally is also appreciated as a team player in the Armidale office, as well as part of one of the GP Synergy Oxfam Trailwalker team this year.

Congratulations to Dr Irina Chernyak, who was named GP Synergy Central, Eastern and South Western Sydney Supervisor of the Year. Irina is an experienced GP supervisor based at MyHealth – Zetland. Additionally, she has conducted direct observations for our PEP participants in Sydney and the Central Coast region. It has been a pleasure to have her valuable contribution into the PEP workplace assessments.
