During 2021 we participated in an exciting new program with the University of Newcastle that allowed medical students to undertake a medical education placement with one of our senior medical educators. We hosted two students – Genevieve and Jonathon.
Genevieve told us why she undertook the placement with our Director of Registrar Education, Dr Anna Sallos: “Last year, we were given the chance to select an elective pathway of study, and I chose Health Professional Education, which I have found very interesting. I was keen to do further study in this area and chose to do a placement at GP Synergy because of their extensive experience in providing specialist GP education and training.”
Jonathan undertook his placement his placement with Dr Nadia Clifton, Head of Prevocational Education. Unfortunately much of Jonathon’s placement had to be undertaken remotely due to COVID-19 restrictions but that didn’t deter him from getting the most from the placement. Jonathon told us: “Thanks so much for all the guidance throughout my placement. Being completely honest I’m genuinely surprised at how much I’ve enjoyed this medical education placement. The ANZPMEF (Australian and New Zealand Prevocational Medical Education Forum) conference was great and then seeing a variety of presentations across different levels in medicine and being able to plan and present on a topic with all the structures that I’ve now learnt is going to be really useful in the future”.
