Training the next generation of GPs takes a team effort, and at GP Synergy’s Seasonal Celebration and Awards Night in Castle Hill on Wednesday night outstanding GP registrars, GP supervisors, practice managers and GP Synergy staff were recognised.

GP Synergy CEO Mr John Oldfield said that the training of GP registrars relies heavily on local GPs and accredited general practices to ensure GP registrars receive the training they require to understand and meet the needs of local communities.

“With more than 300 accredited training facilities across the Nepean, Western and Northern Sydney region, training 400 registrars, the GP training network in the region deserves recognition.

“GP Synergy is committed to delivering a regionally-based training program that meets the needs of metropolitan, rural and remote communities,” Mr Oldfield said.

The awards recognise excellence and ongoing commitment to quality general practice education and training.

Nepean, Western and Northern Sydney Supervisor of the Year Award – Dr Snehal Patel

Dr Snehal Patel is one of our very experienced supervisors, having supervised registrars for more than 15 years at the Bligh Park Family Practice. Registrars describe his supervision as ‘going above and beyond’. His dedication to ensuring training is designed to meet the registrar’s personal learning needs is a recurrent theme, and the weekly whole-of-practice meetings help them enormously to understand the landscape of general practice and its place in the wider health system.

Nepean, Western and Northern Sydney Practice Manager of the Year Award – Denise Whitehead

Denise has been a practice manager since 2011, and at the Riverstone Family Medical Practice, since early 2016. Current and former registrars at the practice admire and appreciate Denise’s dedication to ensuring the well-being of all practice staff and her fostering values of care, teamwork, hard work and respect. A theme running through the nominations was the admiration by registrars of her many initiatives to engage with and support the Riverstone community.

Nepean, Western and Northern Sydney Registrar of the Year Award – Dr Janani Mahadeva

During her training Janani has been highly thought of by practice staff and patients alike. She has demonstrated a commitment to furthering not only her clinical career but also being involved in other aspects of medical work such as teaching, in addition to the supervision of medical students and junior doctors, she is a tutor in the Macquarie University Doctor of Medicine program and is considered an excellent role model.

Nepean, Western and Northern Sydney Staff Member of the Year award – Vanja Novosel

Vanja has been the driving force in transforming the GP Synergy IT Platform, making it stronger, more effective, efficient and user-friendly. Despite the challenges and pressures, he always remains composed, professional and friendly. There’s nothing too difficult for Vanja and he is truly an asset to GP Synergy.
