Long standing GP and GP supervisor, Dr Jenny May from Tamworth, has been awarded the Rural Doctors Association of Australia (RDAA) Telstra Rural GP of the Year Award at the recent Rural Medical Australia 2014 Conference.
Dr May was recognised for her contribution to teaching, research and leadership in rural medicine over her 25 years in rural general practice.
Dr May has been a long-standing supervisor with GP Synergy, training numerous GP registrars as well as medical students.
She was instrumental in the development of Peel Health Care – a corporate practice that pioneered a community led practice model.
She is the clinical dean of the University of Newcastle’s Department of Rural Health and is completing a PhD study on the recruitment and retention issues affecting regional centres for both specialists and GPs.
Dr May also has a strong advocacy background, including Chair of the RDAA Female Doctors Group and Past Chair of the National Rural Health! Alliance. She was also a member of the National Lead Clinicians Group as well as the National Dental Advisory Council.
