GP Synergy welcomes the appointment of new Director Dr Sandra Mendel to the GP Synergy Board, and the reappointment of Associate Professor Lyn Fragar AO and Dr Michael Bonning.

GP Synergy extends its sincere thanks to retiring Directors Mr Craig Hocking and Dr Warwick Yonge.

The appointments were made following the announcement of member ballot results at GP Synergy’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Friday 2 November 2018.

Following the AGM, A/Prof Fragar was re-elected as Chair, and Dr Ian Kamerman as Deputy Chair.

Newly appointed Dr Mendel is an experienced GP, who holds fellowship of both the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM) and the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP). She has practised as a rural generalist for more than 20 years in Orange, NSW and has been heavily involved in GP training through senior medical educator positions in regional training organisations and recently as the ACRRM Director of Training. She is currently Senior Lecturer in Rural Health with Western Sydney University. Dr Mendel is also the Chair of the Central West Medical Association and past Chair and Director of the NSW Central West Division of General Practice.

“We welcome Dr Mendel to the Board, and the skills and expertise she brings,” Chair, A/Prof Fragar said.

“Dr Mendel brings to the board a wealth of clinical, research and governance experience, as well as a commitment to rural health and quality GP education and training.”

At the meeting, A/Prof Fragar also paid tribute to retiring Directors Mr Craig Hocking and Dr Warwick Yonge.

“Craig’s knowledge and experience of delivery of primary health care from Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services has been invaluable to the Board, and Warwick has actively contributed his knowledge and wisdom of general practice training and experience to Board deliberations.

“On behalf of the GP Synergy Board, I sincerely thank both for their commitment and contribution, and wish them all the best in their future endeavours,” she said.
