New England/Northwest Supervisor of the Year – Dr Rohana Wanasinghe
Dr Rohana Wanasinghe is a GP supervisor at Bridge Medical Centre in Narrabri. Wanting to provide trainee GPs with an opportunity to experience health care in a rural setting, Rohana and Bridge Medical Centre became accredited for GP training in 2018. Since then registrars have enjoyed their terms at Bridge Medical Centre, citing that Rohana is approachable and supportive, consistently grateful for the teaching that they have received, including the opportunity for supported VMO work. In turn Rohana enjoys the interaction with registrars and the opportunity to also learn from them.
New England/Northwest Registrar of the Year – Dr Carly Brazel
Dr Carly Brazel is in an Extended skills (General practice) term at Peel Health Care in Tamworth. Originally from the Tamworth area, she has undertaken her GP training there as well as Barber Street Practice in Gunnedah. Carly has excelled during her training showing a devotion to both communities. During her time in Gunnedah she worked tirelessly to serve a community in an environment with a significant shortage of GPs. Carly acknowledged the challenges but also took the view that it was an opportunity for exposure to great learning experiences in general practice.
New England/Northwest Practice Manager of the Year – Jacquie Morgan
Jacquie Morgan is the practice manager at Rusden Street Medical Practice in Armidale. Rusden Street Medical Practice has been training and supporting GP registrars as they undertake their training to become specialist GPs, for many years. Registrars and GP Synergy staff alike, consider Jacquie to be always approachable, available for queries and accommodating of registrars' needs. She prioritises registrars' interests and has their wellbeing at heart. Jacquie considers it is important that registrars are exposed to all aspects of rural GP training and are able to contribute to the community’s long-term wellbeing.
