GP Synergy Awards 2020 – Hunter, Manning and Central Coast

Supervisor of the Year Hunter, Manning & Central Coast – Dr Trevor Hurlow
Dr Trevor Hurlow is a supportive and committed supervisor that makes registrars feel confident in making the transition from hospital to general practice. He is passionate about the work he does as a GP and his enthusiasm is contagious and always evident in his day-to-day practice. Despite being a seasoned GP his amazement when discussing cases is evident. In his commitment to his local community he goes above and beyond to improve their health knowledge and ensure they know he is there if needed. As a supervisor he always prepares in advance what registrars should learn each week and constantly provides ad hoc teaching experiences. Registrar queries or concerns are answered promptly. His interest in registrars studying and sitting their fellowship exams goes beyond their placement with him. Trevor entrusts registrars with his own patients to ensure they get the full range of experience required to be a good GP. Registrars highly recommend Trevor as a supervisor to their junior GP registrar colleagues to ensure a great start to life as a GP and a well-rounded education.

Practice Manager of the Year Hunter, Manning & Central Coast – Sue Maher
Sue Maher is a wonderful, hard-working and dedicated group practice manager, managing the three sites in the Waratah Medical Services group efficiently, professionally and with an emphasis on pastoral support. She is incredibly supportive of all her staff with an infectious passion for ensuring GP registrars have a positive experience during their time in the practices. She genuinely cares about her registrars, staff, patients and the local communities. Sue adds little touches to make the registrars feel welcome, such as making sure they have a name plate on their door when they arrive on their first day. With Sue as the backbone, registrars receive a wonderful training experience and human experience at Waratah. Having worked through difficult times she is a credit to herself and the practice management profession.
