Dr Sana Khalid Pathan, The Excel Medical Centre

Why did you decide to undertake the PGPPP placement?

I undertook the PGPPP placement because I wanted to broaden my knowledge especially in paediatrics and woman’s health. I also wanted to see what mental health management was like in a community setting.

What did you find were the most enjoyable aspects of the placement?

The aspects I found more enjoyable were:

–              Getting to know my patients

–              The varied presentations I experienced

–              Ongoing review and the benefits of seeing different staged of illness

Would you recommend the term to junior doctors already considering GP?

Yes I would definitely recommend this term for those thinking about GP training.

Would you recommend the term to junior doctors not considering GP?

A PGPPP term is a great learning experience. You will get to see how the interactions between hospital inpatients and community are  different and this will affect how you will practice in the future.

What were some of the types of clinical presentations you saw during your placement?

  • Acute illnesses – chest pains, traumatic head injury, abdominal emergencies
  • Woman’s health – preventative (breast checks, papsmears)
  • Paediatrics – a lot of antenatal presentations.

How would you describe your supervision during the term?

Excellent – I felt very comfortable approaching my supervisors when I needed a hand.

How would you describe the support and education provided by GP Synergy during the term?

The support I received was great.
