In the May 2014 Federal Budget, a number of measures were announced that will directly impact on general practice education, training and workforce.
This includes the divestment of General Practice Education and Training (GPET) in the management of Australian General Practice Training (AGPT). It was announced that GPET’s functions will transition to the Department of Health by 31 December 2014.
The Prevocational General Practice Placements Program (PGPPP) will cease at the end of the 2014 training year.
Contracts for the Regional Training Provider (RTP) network which delivers AGPT are due to expire on 31 December 2015. In the lead up to the cessation of RTP contracts, the future delivery of AGPT will be opened to competitive tender.
At this stage there is limited factual information about the tender criteria. We expect to see a number industry alliances drawn and normative statements in the press during the intervening period.
Yet for us it’s still business as usual as we continue to invest into our organisational capacities and capabilities.
We will keep practices and registrars informed of relevant developments as they come to hand.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me at any time if you have any queries.
GPRime 2 update – new features, bug fixes and milestones
We are continuing to work on GPRime2, implementing bug fixes and making enhancements to improve the GPRime2 experience for all our users.
Since the new system went live in February, it has performed more than 1 million transactions (record saves), which means we are averaging a little under 200,000 transactions a month – without a single system crash.
Current development work is centering around portfolios, which will lead to significant enhancements in trainee portfolios as well as the creation of a new supervisor and practice manager portfolio, amongst other items.
We appreciate your patience as we roll out the system and encourage you to let us know if you come across any bugs or areas that requirement improvement.
2015.1 Term placement and re-enrolment
Although the 2014.2 has only just begun, it will soon be time to start preparing for 2015.1 term placements.
Registrar re-enrolment for the 2015.1 term will open from 20 – 28 September, with applications for available training placements able to be made on GPRime2 by enrolled registrars from 8 October.
We encourage practices to update their training vacancies for the February – August 2015 term (2015.1) in advance of re-enrolment opening to provide registrars with as much information as possible to help them make their group nominations during enrolment.
More information will be emailed to practices and registrars in the coming weeks.
2015 AGPT selection update
The first intake of the 2015 AGPT program is drawing to a close and we have been delighted with the high quality of applicants across both our training pathways. We congratulate the successful applicants on their acceptance on the program and welcome them onto the program.
GPET recently announced that there will be a second intake for the 2015 program, and will be accepting new applications for remaining training places from 8-19 September. More information about second intake can be found on the AGPT website – www.agpt.com.au
