Training the next generation of GPs takes a team, and at GP Synergy’s Seasonal Celebration and Awards Night in Wollongong on Thursday night outstanding GP registrars, GP supervisors and practice managers were recognised.
Sarah Pryor, Practice Manager at Bowral Street Medical Practice, was recognised as the GP Synergy Practice Manager of the Year for the South Eastern NSW training subregion.
Having been with the practice for more than five years and a practice manager for 14 years, Ms Pryor was acknowledged for implementing systems that support the provision of teaching and training of medical students and doctors training to become specialist GPs.
“Bowral Street Medical Practice has been a training practice for almost 20 years, the doctors here that are accredited GP supervisors want to share their knowledge, skills and experiences to give back to a profession they love.
“At the practice we’re passionate about encouraging a new generation of doctors to work in regional areas and see that it is a great long-term option.
“The GP registrars keep the practice fresh and vibrant, they are great at sharing new and updated information with the rest of the team.
“Whether the registrars come from the city, country or overseas they all bring different experiences, perspectives and stories – many have had incredibly inspiring journeys to reach their goals,” Ms Pryor said.
John Oldfield, GP Synergy CEO, said there are currently more than 120 general practices across the South Eastern NSW accredited to train registrars.
“The role of practice managers, in practices maintaining their training accreditation and in supporting the training of GP registrars is immensely important.
“It’s practice managers that help registrars navigate the behind-the-scenes workings of general practice and support their placement and training within the practice,” Mr Oldfield said.
