2022.1 re-enrolment registrar feedback outcomes
Thank you to all the registrars that provided feedback via our bi-annual registrar re-enrolment survey in October this year. Feedback was collected from 1659 of 1762 registrars (96%).
The bi-annual re-enrolment feedback survey is one of many ways we collect feedback to better understand our registrars' needs. We also consider feedback from local Registrar Liaison Officers (RLOs), Training Coordinators (TCs), Medical Educators (MEs), and advocacy groups such as GPRA and AMA. In addition, we review feedback from the feedback form on our website, via our complaints and compliments register, and education and other evaluations.
Results from the survey are currently being reviewed by the Senior Management Team and Education Executive, as well as the Committee Overseeing Registrar Education (CORE).
Below is a snapshot of the key findings.
Overall satisfaction at an all-time high
Overall satisfaction with GP Synergy amongst registrar respondents is at an all-time high with 86% of registrars either satisfied or highly satisfied with GP Synergy overall, and the lowest proportion of dissatisfied registrars at 2%.
2% of respondents made positive comments including feeling supported, overall satisfaction and praising team members.
1% of respondents made suggestions for improvements including improvements to paperwork, education and preparation for exams.
Education program feedback positive
Whilst the 2021.1 and 2021.2 registrar education programs remained online due to COVID-19, registrar satisfaction with the program remained strong, with 83% satisfied with the program (up from 81% the previous term). 175 registrars (~10%) made comments about the program, with 4% positive and 6% making suggestions for improvement. The most common responses for improvement included more teaching for registrars in their third GP term or above, webinar structure and education program suggestions.
Satisfaction with in-practice supervision remains high
Satisfaction with in-practice experiences remained high at 92% overall, a slight increase on the previous term's results (91%). 101 registrars made comments about their supervision, the majority of which were positive. A small percent offered suggestions for improvement, which largely related to COVID-19 or the amount of teaching. All comments are currently being reviewed by the Education Executive.
Registrar's perception of GP Synergy team members is positive with areas for improvement
Registrar's interactions with GP Synergy team members remained overall positive, in line with 2021.1 results. 190 (11%) of respondents made comments, 9% of which were positive. Suggestions for improvement (3%) included more support including exam support and access to team members. All feedback is currently being reviewed by the Senior Management Team.
Most registrars are satisfied with the term placement process
Registrar's level of satisfaction with the term placement process remained on par with the previous term's results with 80% satisfied or highly satisfied. Six percent of respondents expressed challenges with the process, the most common related to the competition for placements, timeline challenges and availability of training places. In response to similar feedback previously, a pilot was undertaken in the South Eastern NSW subregion trialling a change in the offer and acceptance timeline for the 2022.1 term. Feedback from the pilot is currently being collected and analysed to determine its suitability to be rolled out across other subregions for 2022.2 placements.
Registrars find GP Synergy assessments useful
Feedback from registrars about GP Synergy assessments such as clinical teaching visits, multi-source feedback, initial observations, ReCEnT reports, etc was positive with 98% finding these (and other) assessments useful to some degree. Furthermore, 89% of registrars reported they had changed their learning plan to some extent following feedback from the assessment. Eighty-five percent of registrars stated the assessment prompted a discussion with their supervisor and 73% said they promoted a discussion with their medical educator.
