GP Synergy provides Aboriginal health training workshops for all GP registrars in their first or second term of training. This training includes Aboriginal history and policies, cultural safety, communication and community engagement strategies, and clinical aspects relevant to Aboriginal health. Workshops are held across our regional locations and utilise the expertise of GP Synergy Aboriginal staff, local Elders, Aboriginal service providers and community members to provide locally specific cultural education. These workshops are designed to assist registrars who may undertake training in an Aboriginal health training post as well as in everyday practice with Aboriginal clients.
The recent Aboriginal health training workshop held in Canberra for registrars training in the ACT and part of South Eastern NSW was held at the Yaramundi Cultural Centre. The day included sessions from GP Synergy’s cultural educators, Winnunga Nimmityjah Aboriginal Health and Community Services, Australian Indigenous Doctors’ Association, Katungul Aboriginal Corporation Regional Health and Community Services and Capital Health Network.
