The GP Synergy Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Committee met on Thursday 26 November at the Novotel Sydney International Airport for their ‘first’ face-to-face meeting for 2020, the meeting aligned with the changing COVID-19 restrictions.

There was approximately 30 attendees with some great key note speakers including:

  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Committee Chair Lisa Ogolo
  • Dr Elizabeth McEntyre, newly appointed GP Synergy Board Director and Worimi/Wonnarua First Nations woman who shared the future direction and continued support of the Board for the Committee and its business going forward
  • Anthony Paulson and Christopher O’Brien provided an operational update for the Aboriginal Cultural Education Unit
  • Georgina van de Water (CEO) provided an update around the organisation and progression to the transition to college-led training and the importance of internal and external stakeholder engagement and support
  • Lucinda Coble (PLSO – Hunter, Manning and Central Coast) provided an update around the restructure of the regional advisory councils transition to regional stakeholder engagement forums further providing support and information at a regional level
  • Susanne Le Boutillier (Consultant, Team and Executive Coach) facilitated a workshop via Zoom around Aboriginal community-controlled health services and stakeholder engagement
  • Chairs of the cultural mentor and practice management advisory groups provided an update around the annual workshop and conference events held virtually for 2020.

The meeting concluded with the acknowledgement of Uncle Grahame Skinner as the successful recipient of the inaugural Aunty Val Dahlstrom Award for Aboriginal Health Excellence (NSW/ACT).
